One of the most useful Monster Hunter: World locations in Astera is the Botanical Research Center — an enclosed farm where you can plant seeds to grow crafting materials. It’s also one of the best ways to earn lots and lots of bonus cash while you’re busy doing anything else. Cultivating a crop of valuable Might Seeds can be even quicker if you unlock more farming slots.
You’re restricted to a certain amount of farming slots early in your journey, but it is possible to expand your allotment and unlock more. We recommend doing these side-quests as early as possible — every extra slot is another place to grow more seeds and earn more zenny.

How To Unlock More Farm Slots Botanist Guide
The Botanical Research Center in Astera allows you to plant and grows seeds. The earliest seeds you can plant are Might Seeds, but you’ll find others as you progress.
There are lots of uses for the farm (growing crafting materials, earning zenny) but all of them take time. You can grow more in the exact same amount of time by unlocking extra farming slot.
You can unlock up to three slots in the farm — you start with only one, and can earn a second and third slot.
- How to Unlock the Second Slot:
- Unlock Level 4 optional quests on the Quest Board.
- Complete the quest ‘Persistent Pests’ in the Rotten Vale.
- Complete this simple quest to earn the second farming slot, which visually upgrades the Botanical Research Center.
- How to Unlock the Third Slot:
- Unlock Level 7 optional quests on the Quest Board.
- Complete the quest ‘Talons of Ice and Fire’ in the Coral Highlands.
- This is a tough High-Rank quest, where you’ll fight much harder versions of large monsters.
- Again, completing this quest will visually upgrade the Botanical Research Center and give you a third farming slot.
Completing these quests is pretty important for the end-game content, and will let you cultivate multiple items for crafting / selling. Try placing bugs, herbs, and other items in the Botanical Research Center for a variety of different materials, too! Whatever you want to grow, it’s easy to unlock extra slots and enhance your farming game.

Decorations are upgrade gems in Monster Hunter World. They’re jewels that can be used to enhance weapons and armor with new skills. You’ll start getting them after you reach high rank. They’re pretty rare, and some players are unclear on how the system actually works. We’ve decided to write up a guide about Monster Hunter World decorations, jewels & gems, to show you how to get and use them.
You’ll gain access to the decorations system after you reach high rank, which is MHW’s version of new game plus. The game will let you know you’ve unlocked it, along with six star quests, alpha and beta armors, and more. When you talk to the smithy afterwards, you’ll get your first jewel.

How to use jewels & gems?
You can insert the gems into gear that has decoration slots. Go to the smithy and use the “set decorations” option. It will give you a list of all the equipment you have that supports jewels, as well as the list of gems you own. Both slots and jewels can have levels – the slot level needs to be the same or higher than the jewel level.
If you want to use a decoration on a weapon, you’ll need to upgrade it enough first. When it comes to armor, though, you’ll need to craft the beta version of the desired piece – alfa versions come with two skills, while beta versions have one skill and one gem slot.
How to get decorations in MHW?
Most of the time, you’ll get decorations from appraisal items, like the Mysterious Feystone. These can be obtained as quest rewards, bought from some merchants, or received from the Tailrider Safari. When you interact with the appraisal item, you’ll open it up and find a jewel or two of varying rarities. Your chances of getting them from quests are best if you do high rank quests (six stars, involving high rank versions of monsters.)
